Its been a while... a lot has happened! I had a birthday in August, and joined weight watchers, and went vegan...then almost raw...then I was preparing for a friend's Spring wedding...so yeah, a lot of time was spent googling recipes and testimonials to motivate myself..
I am back...here's a pic I took at the garden wedding (yes I wore a HUGE hat and loved it) :-)

You'll hear from me soon... I promise..I'm busy googling ways to keep hair strong with drastic diet changes.. I want to health_reform but not at the expense of my hair... so I would like this transition to be as painfree as possible for my locks...if you have tips please share

I've been following your blog for a while. Your locks are fab. I wanted to find whether there is an interest in mirco/sisterlocs in SA, as a family friend as moved back about a year ago and is suggesting that I move out there to set up my own natural/loc hair salon.
I am from London and have had my mirco sisterlocs (1,0000 locs) for 1 year and previous larger set (630 locs) for four years. I did the sisterlock training last year. I have a small but growing lock business in London but I am eager to jump ship and do something different. Could you provide any insight into whether this business venture could work?

Thank you for following my blog and for your communication. Wow... I'm thoroughly impressed with your lock number..I have 300+ locks and its a mission to self-reti. I wanted to check out your blog but I can't find an Ali on my public list of followers.
Re: Your question... there's def a growing interest. In fact, 4 out of every 10 SA women are locked or have natural hair. Majority (95%) of locked women have traditional locks (and there's a handful of salons in Johannesburg that have started using latch hook to groom locks).
People here would love the freedom and versatility of micro locks, however most people don't know about sisterlocks or microlocks in general...so some serious marketing is required.
The other challenge you would have is pricing..most people are farmiliar with traditional dreadlocks which are not expensive to maintain. The average SAfrican would not afford the price to install microlocks and maintain them. For example, the handful salons that latch hook charge about R500 (roughly 50 pounds) for the whole head, for traditional locks which take 1 hr at the very most..so you'd have to price down a bit than what you're used to, that side.
once people know about you, you'll be flooded...I know for sure I would surely use your services :-) hope that helps...pls feel free to inbox me for further info.. I didn't wanna bore you with the dermographics but it also depends where in SA you would settle, with Jhb being the hub of economic activity...

Hi - I'm from Joburg and looking to do sisterlocks. I am looking for someone to help me - please can you send me details of salons in Joburg?
I've been up countless nights trying to find a sisterlock consultant. I've even considered flying overseas to get them done (I'm South african). But I know that's not feasible considering the cost of travelling and sisterlocks as well as maintenance and check ups. If anyone situates themselves anywhere in South Africa, I'd be the first to jump to a consultant. My friends would also follow. Their very interested in sisterlocs as well but are hesitant to do traditional dreads. Peeps are at a stand still. There are people who do know that will influence other people. Please consider coming to South Africa.

I have been looking for someone to do sisterlocks in SA for 2 years now without luck. There's Barbara (trainee) listed on the sisterlocks website but she does not reply on the listed email address.
I found a salon - IsandaBelle in Centurion (between JHb and Pretoria) that can do good enough microlocs. Have consulted/interviewed with the stylist twice to check that we have the same understanding of what I need done and I'm going to take the plunge...hm!
Look them salon up for microlocs....still no one out here to do our hair!
