I finally tried perm rods... stunning results. My curls survived almost 3 weeks and a few dashes of rain. I kept the rollers overnight(painful!) and I wasn't too consistant with the curling direction..but the curls were forgiving.
The spirals are not as tight as with the pipeclearners, and they are more bouncy, so I think I will alternate between the 2 methods from now on.

Your curls came out very nice, and you make me want to try perm rods or use pipe cleaners now. :-)
